Don’t get frustrated if you can’t get through. If a lot of customers are without power it will be likely that they will all be trying to call at the same time and our lines will be busy. You can be sure that when that many people are calling we are responding to the problem. It is probably wise to call back periodically, some weather conditions like windstorms cause outages to hundreds of customers and individual customers, so we may be responding to your outage or we may not.
While our computerized control system will give us some notification of power outages you, our customers, also provide valuable information on the nature and extent of the outage(s) and sometimes even the location of the problem – "I heard a loud bang and the sky lit up". We also get reports from local police and fire departments. Our control system allows an operator to analyze and take care of some problems remotely, which can reduce the duration of an outage. If the problem cannot be corrected in the control room, a crew will be dispatched.
In the event of a major storm, North Bay Hydro implements an emergency plan of operation, which places the efforts of the entire company behind power restoration 24-hours-a-day. We will try to restore electrical service to the maximum number of customers in the shortest possible time.
Where possible, North Bay Hydro will communicate with the media and other agencies throughout any outage; therefore you may be able to receive updated information through a battery-operated radio.
Answers to the following questions will assist us:
- What is your name and address?
- What is the nature of the problem?
- Are lights out, dim, or flickering?
- Are there poles or wires down?
- Are your neighbours lights out as well?
Don’t expect that the person answering the phone will be able to tell you how long the outage will be. In the early stages, while we are responding, we may not know the exact location of the problem or how long it is going to take to repair the problem or restore power.
Your call will be logged and depending on the nature of the outage and the number of customers affected we may call you when power is restored to ensure that your power is back on. |
