A More Efficient Business

When it’s time to retrofit your business, why not choose equipment that will save you money?

With all the financial and timing considerations, energy-efficient options may not be the first thing on your mind. So we’ve made it easy for you. The Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP) gives you the most energy-efficient solutions to improve your bottom line.

To participate, simply submit a project application for approval before December 31, 2010, to your local electric utility.

Eligible projects must be completed, functional, and delivering kilowatt savings prior to December 1, 2011. Projects not completed or put into service by December 1, 2011, may not qualify.

Projects with an earlier in-service date will be given priority for approval.

-

Two Ways to Conserve

-

ERIP is made up of two tracks:

PRESCRIPTIVE TRACK

This track has predefined technologies with corresponding per-unit or performance-basis savings measures. These projects will tend to involve replacements and upgrades to existing systems. The incentive is based on what is installed.

CUSTOM TRACK

This track is for businesses using a more specific solution to electricity efficiency retrofitting. For these projects, all technology equipment and systems are evaluated on the basis of their power and energy performance improvement. The incentive offered is based specifically on the level of improvement.

The incentives are based on the results of calculations from each track’s specific worksheet.

Changes That Save

-

The Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP) focuses on lighting, motors, heating, ventilation and air conditioning and overall electricity systems.

Predefined Technologies:

LIGHTING

  • FLUORESCENT LIGHTING SYSTEMS (T8,T5,CFL)
  • HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE LIGHTING SYSTEMS
  • LED “EXIT” SIGNS
  • OCCUPANCY SENSORS

MOTORS

  • THREE-PHASE PREMIUM-EFFICIENCY MOTORS 1-200 HP

COOLING EQUIPMENT

  • UNITARY A/C UNITS UP TO 25 TONS THAT ARE ENERGY STAR-QUALIFIED OR CEE COMPLIANT

AGRICULTURE

  • 18” – 53” HIGH EFFICIENCY AND ULTRA HIGH EFFICIENCY VENTILATION FANS
  • SWINE CREEP HEAT AND CONTROLS
  • LIVESTOCK WATERERS

Alternative Energy Measures

-

When you are considering investing in new equipment or replacing existing equipment for your business or commercial operation, alternative energy sources such as solar, geothermal and natural gas can be a more appropriate fuel choice than electricity.

In some business uses, alternative energy measures can lower operating costs. To encourage business owners to look at alternative energy measures that may benefit their operations, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) is providing financial incentives for the following uses and sectors

Alternative energy measures for food services

  • Gas griddles and fryers

Alternative energy measures for service hot water

  • Solar hot water heating
  • Drain water heat recovery
  • Non-electric tank and instantaneous water heating

Alternative energy measures for space cooling

  • Ground-source heat pumps
  • Desiccant dehumidification
  • Absorption and engine-driven chillers

How to Prepare for ERIP

-

1. Plan to do a retrofit and participate in increasing electricity efficiency through new measures or technologies.

2. Identify areas or specific equipment you are going to look toward for savings.

3. Complete the Prescriptive Project Application Form by checking the list of predefined technologies.

4. Complete the Custom Project Application Form if your retrofit does not fall within the list of predefined technologies.

HOW THE PROCESS WILL TAKE PLACE

1. Complete the necessary application and submit it to North Bay Hydro.

2. You will be notified when the project is approved.

3. Complete the retrofit within the prescribed timeframe.

4. When the work is complete, forward all the purchase documentation to North Bay Hydro.

5. North Bay Hydro will verify the project completion, and then issue payment.

6. The measurement and verification process may require that some participants receive an on-site audit that will be carried out by a third party on behalf of the OPA.
