8% Provincial Rebate

8Percent

Ontario is helping reduce electricity costs for families, businesses and farms.

As of January 1, 2017, the Government of Ontario is introducing an 8% rebate under the Ontario Rebate for Electricity Consumers Act, 2016 (“The Act”). The rebate is equal to the provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on the bills of residential, farm, small business and other eligible customers and will begin to appear on electricity bills for eligible customers effective January 1, 2017.

All residential and small business customers will automatically qualify for this rebate; however, under additional eligibility criteria provided in the Act, larger commercial accounts may be eligible to receive the 8% rebate on their bill.

If you are a larger commercial account you would have received a letter from North Bay Hydro that included a ‘Self-Declaration Form for 8% Rebate on Electricity Bill’. The form should be completed only if your account meets any of the eligibility criteria listed on the form. Once completed, please return to North Bay Hydro by email, fax, or mail (contact details are listed on the form).

Based on the completed and signed Self-Declaration form that indicates qualification for the rebate, we will retroactively credit your account (as applicable) effective January 1, 2017 or to a maximum of two years from the date you provided us with the completed self-declaration form, if submitted after January 1, 2019.

*Forms received after January 16, 2016 will see the rebate applied on the next scheduled bill, along with applicable retroactive amounts.*

Notice of Rate Application – 2015 Rates

North Bay Hydro has submitted a Cost of Service Rate Application to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) for rates effective May 1, 2015.  Distributors like North Bay Hydro typically apply for a full review of their rates every five years and rate changes for the years in between are made by applying a formula that is tied to inflation and other factors intended to promote efficiency. The OEB and various interest groups will have an opportunity to question North Bay Hydro on all aspects of the application and the process allows for a very thorough testing of the reasonability and justification of the rates proposed by North Bay Hydro.  At the end of the hearing process, the OEB will decide what, if any, change will be allowed. You have the right to information regarding this application and to be involved in the process.  You can:

  • review North Bay Hydro’s application on the OEB’s website now.
  • file a letter with your comments, which will be considered during the hearing.
  • become an active participant (called an intervenor). Apply by March 2, 2015 or the hearing will go ahead without you and you will not receive any further notice of the proceeding.
  • at the end of the process, review the OEB’s decision and its reasons on our website.

The Ontario Energy Board has announced new electricity prices. The new prices will apply to most households and small businesses starting November 1.

When the prices change, the hours for mid-peak and on-peak prices also change to the winter time-of-use hours. The lowest-priced, off-peak period remains from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and all day weekends and holidays. The price for consumers is increasing by approximately $2.03 per month on the “Electricity” line, and about 1.7% on the total bill, for a household with a typical consumption pattern and using 800 kWh per month.
